Overview. Flotation is an economical and effective separation of refined gold technology, especially for these ores that are not suitable for other processes, such as gold bearing copper ore, base metal ore, copper nickel ore, platinum group ore, etc. Flotation is also used to remove impurities before hydrometallurgical treatment to purify low sulfide and refractory ores for further processing.
If the particles are too large, unwanted accessory minerals cannot be separated from the ore. The ore concentrate obtained only has a low purity. Overgrinding, on the other hand, results in high milling costs and low throughput as well as an increased need for chemicals in flotation. Furthermore, flotation cells are sensitive to solid overloading.
Flotation has now become the most widely used process for extracting many minerals from their ores. Most kinds of minerals require coating with a water repellent to make them float. By coating the minerals with small amounts of chemicals or oils, finely ground particles of the minerals remain unwetted and will thus adhere to air bubbles. The mineral particles are coated by agitating a pulp of ore, water, and suitable chemicals; the latter bind to the surface of the mineral particles and make ...
Mineral dressing The first process most ores undergo after they leave the mine is mineral dressing , also called ore preparation, milling, and ore dressing or ore beneficiation. Ore dressing is a process of mechanically separating the grains of ore minerals from the gangue minerals, to produce a concentrate (enriched
The final result is an unusually high grade concentrate, distinctive of the Sub A Cell. A flotation machine must not only float out the mineral value in a mixture of ground ore and water, but also must keep the pulp in circulation continuously from the feed end to the discharge end for the removal of the froth, and must give the maximum treatment positively to each particle.
The flotation machine has played an important part in this selective flotation practice. This is especially true of the cell to cell type of machine such as the Sub A, where the number of cells to treat different minerals may be changed rapidly from time to time as contents and type of ore may vary.
